Ramya Krishnan during one of her interviews with Galatta.com on Panchathanthiram mentioned "One of the important things I learnt and admired about him (Kamal Hassan) is his ability to make a very simple and ordinary scene look so important and interesting." Now magnify the scene into a whole movie and that is exactly what Kamal has done again. A simple plot of a suspecting wife, a playboy husband, a dead hooker and some missing diamonds. This is something that a typical masala movie might carry but what makes it different is the ability of Kamal to continue to hold the audience in their seat for three hours without heaving a sigh of discontent when they finally leave the theatre.

The movie starts off in Canada where Kamal Hassan plays the role of Ram, a commercial air pilot. He is a totally free bird type with a "so many women so little time" kind of attitude. Finally the playboy also gets tied down to marriage when he meets Mythili (Simran) during a hijack of his flight. But Mythili (Simran) has problems dealing Ram's (Kamal Hassan) outright flirtatiousness with women during his bachelor days. She finds it hard to trust him. Coincidentally accidents happen along the line to Kamal repeatedly thereby breaking Simran's trust in him. Angry with Kamal she leaves for India. Kamal pursues her down to India to save his marriage. Meanwhile Kamal's friends Jayaram, Yuhi Sethu, Ramesh Arvind and Sriman try to convince Kamal to forget Simran and start a new life. On his birthday they arrange for a special birthday party for him and also arrange for a call-girl Maggie, which is played by Ramya Krishnan to entertain him. Kamal who is still determined to stay faithful to his wife Simran slaps Ramya Krishnan and walks out inspite of Ramya Krishnan's pursuit to seduce him. When the friends return to the room they find Ramya Krishnan murdered. While Kamal's friends are lying spontaneously one after the other to set the drama going their wives try their best to get Kamal back with Simran. But during a festival at Sriman's place Ramya Krishnan returns back posing as Kamal's wife. The rest of the movie is about how Kamal gets back with his wife Simran solving all the pile of confusion that happened along the way. The comedy of errors accelerates the velocity of the drama to such an extent that you hardly notice time fly. While everybody has done what was required of them, Yuhi Sethu steals the limelight among the four friends as the half-baked 'Hedge'. Ramya Krishnan leaves you wondering if anyone could possibly get better with age than her. Simran does exactly what was expected of her. All in all there is a possibility that you could see traces of previous Kamal's comedy movies in this one - familiar yet different. Panchathanthiram - an old magical trick which only Kamal Hassan can dare to pull again.
